The Cultural Village Foundation- Katara invites you to shop at Mahaseel festival again this year to offer consumers local produce freshly picked from Qatari farms.
Mahaseel Festival will open on December 23 and run until January 2 2021 from 9am to 9pm at Katara’s Southern Area, after which the Mahaseel souq will continue to be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until March 31.
Since its inaugural edition in 2016, Mahaseel (an Arabic word which translates to ‘Harvest’) has seen huge success having been patronised by the general public for offering fresh produce grown by local farmers being sold at cheap prices.
Katara organises this festival every year as a way to support the Qatari agricultural sector and national livestock and food products, as well as offer business opportunities to owners of Qatari farms.
Organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the previous edition of the festival was the biggest yet witnessing the participation of more than 40 stalls representing local fruit and vegetable farms, apiaries and food production companies including 27 Qatari vegetable, honey and date farms, three companies manufacturing juices and dairy products and three poultry and egg companies in addition to Widam Food Company.
Last year’s edition coincided with the inauguration of the Farmers’ Forum office, a first-of-its-kind in Qatar which plays an important role in the agricultural sector by bringing owners of farms together to exchange experiences, providing workshops and seminars that contribute to the development of local agricultural production, and encouraging investment in agricultural projects.
Workshops, exhibitions, competitions and other interactive activities were organised in the past to raise awareness among children and the general public on the different locally grown vegetables and fruits, the importance of fostering a culture of cultivating crops and the significant role the agricultural sector plays in the country’s economy.
Mahaseel Festival provides an excellent platform for local farms to directly market their produce as well as introduce people to the varieties of fruits and vegetables grown in Qatar which they can purchase at affordable prices.
